The Galetta Community Association promotes and organizes recreational, social, cultural, benevolent, physical, athletic, sports and educational activities to serve people of all ages in the community in partnership with the City of Ottawa. While we have a mandate to provide programming to the residents of Galetta Village, Vydon Acres, Morris Island and Marshall Bay, our facilities and activities are open to all.

Norman “Norm” Ross
With extreme sadness, the family announces that Norm passed away at the Arnprior and District Memorial Hospital on Friday evening, March 6, 2026, following a brief illness.
Norman Robert Ross of Galetta was only 71 years of age.
Beloved husband and best friend of Barbara Jowett. Dearly beloved Dad of Kelly Midgley (David), Chris Ross, and Stepdad of Kirk Puckett.
Cherished Grandpa of Alex Midgley, Cooper and Kylie Puckett.
Dear brother of Kenneth Ross (Renata Van Vliet) and Marion Murray (late Alvin).
Also survived by his many nieces and nephews.
Forever remembered and missed by his faithful canine companion, Katie.
Norm was born in Buckingham, Quebec in 1954. He was the youngest of 3 children.
As a youth, Norm was always playful and mischievous, whether it was with friends or cars. He loved speed from a young age.
Norm was an OC Transpo bus driver for 35 years. He always said: “It would’ve been a great job as long as you didn’t have to pick up people.”
But the old ladies used to love him because he used to get them home fast.
In 2002, Norm and Barb moved to Galetta to have a slower pace of life.
Norm had a local firewood business and sold camp wood, too.
He would always be happiest out in the woods and chopping lumber, especially in the winter. He was a simple man that loved simple things.
Norm was a pillar of the Galetta community.
For the past 16 years, Norm held many hats in the community, from a regular volunteer to a key leader of Galetta Community Centre but mostly known as “Keeper of the Keys.”
He will forever be missed in the community as he touched many hearts.
Family and friends are invited to share their memories of Norm with his family
during an informal gathering to be held at his beloved Galetta Community Centre on Sunday, March 22nd from 2 to 4 p.m.
Words of remembrance will begin at 3 o’clock.
Refreshments will be served.
For those wishing to remember Norm in a special way, please consider a donation to the Arnprior Humane Society or your favorite charity.
In the care of the Pilon Family Funeral Home in Arnprior.

Get involved in our community and make a difference. We have a variety of volunteer opportunities available, from organizing events to supporting local causes.

Meetings are held at 7 pm in the Galetta Community Hall on the fourth Monday of each month (excluding December).
